Innovation project implementation of augmented reality to optimize operational processes

THE COMPANY

A story that leaves a very good flavor. It is a family business that acquired in 1950 a farm with a small Trapiche. Years later with new facilities and equipment more modern, the construction challenge began.
It currently produces more than 3 million metric tons (mt) of grinding per harvest, has approximately 60% mechanized harvest, produces about 180,000 tons of sugar, sells 201,500,000 KWh of energy electricity and provides direct employment to more than 6,000 Guatemalans.

NATIONAL AWARD FOR INNOVATION

In December 2020, at the Palace of the Republic of Guatemala, this company with PCA Innovation receives the prestigious National Award for Guatemalan Innovation, titled Innovation Tracing the Path, in the industry category, the which is delivered by the Vice President and Endorsed by institutions of national prestige and international, such such as: United Nations, UNDP, Unicef, Senacyt (Secretary of Science and technology), among many others.

The National Award to Innovation was awarded for projects application in the sugar mill Improvement Union (ILU) processes, increase in productivity and reduction radical cost through use of Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality.

WHAT PROCESSES OF THE INNOVATION SYSTEM WE HELP IMPLEMENT?

BACKGROUND

The fall in international prices put pressure on agribusiness sugar factory to reduce costs to be competitive globally.
A of the main routes to be able mitigate this and continue to contribute the country’s economy is innovation in operations and processes and the use state-of-the-art technology to support lower costs. That’s where PCA Innovation looks that the use of innovation projects disruptive, such as the use of reality increased for training and learning, will play a critical role in the future of the industry.
Selecting the process maintenance and specifically valve maintenance Bray series 30 for the amount with that counts the factory and the impact potential in saving time maintenance, cost reduction and improve the availability of production.
Later, he joined a team of innovation, with staff from training and human resources ILU, maintenance managers factory and expert consultants in innovation and reality projects augmented by PCA Innovation.
Innovation processes 100%
Augmented Reality 100%
On the part of the consultant, the project it was led by Álvaro Reynoso; practice leader Manuel Urías; Equipment Functional Developer PCA and 3d engineer.
Later meetings were held awareness, team definition of work and selection of the pilot plan the use of augmented reality. He proposed device is the valve Bray series 30, which represents 43% of the teams to which the instrumentation workshop provides maintenance. The time in which provides maintenance is key to the operation.
Then we develop the solution of the augmented reality for said valve together with the teams innovation of the ILU project, to
which we knew the process, design, 3D drawing and development of the app and application quality testing. HE I develop the design of the components, the design of the solutions. Finally, the quality test of the application and reality adjust increased with the participants of the pilot test. Finally, measurements were made of the results of the pilot test and definition of a plan of scalability.
